Evolutionary Techniques for Model Order Reduction of Large Scale Linear Systems

چکیده
Recently, genetic algorithms (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique have attracted considerable attention among various modern heuristic optimization techniques. The GA has been popular in academia and the industry mainly because of its intuitiveness, ease of implementation, and the ability to effectively solve highly non-linear, mixed integer optimization problems that are typical of complex engineering systems. PSO technique is a relatively recent heuristic search method whose mechanics are inspired by the swarming or collaborative behavior of biological populations. In this paper both PSO and GA optimization are employed for finding stable reduced order models of single-inputsingle-output large-scale linear systems. Both the techniques guarantee stability of reduced order model if the original high order model is stable. PSO method is based on the minimization of the Integral Squared Error (ISE) between the transient responses of original higher order model and the reduced order model pertaining to a unit step input. Both the methods are illustrated through numerical example from literature and the results are compared with recently published conventional model reduction technique. Keywords—Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization, Order Reduction, Stability, Transfer Function, Integral Squared Error.

A partition-based algorithm for clustering large-scale software systems
Clustering techniques are used to extract the structure of software for understanding, maintaining, and refactoring. In the literature, most of the proposed approaches for software clustering are divided into hierarchical algorithms and search-based techniques. In the former, clustering is a process of merging (splitting) similar (non-similar) clusters. These techniques suffered from the drawba...

In this study, two novel learning algorithms have been applied on Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN) to approximate the functions with high non-linear order. The Probabilistic Evolutionary (PE) and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) techniques are proposed to significantly minimize the error functions. The main idea is concerning the various strategies to optimize the procedure of Gradient ...

This study develops and analyzes preconditioned Krylov subspace methods to solve linear systems arising from discretization of the time-independent space-fractional models. First, we apply shifted Grunwald formulas to obtain a stable finite difference approximation to fractional advection-diffusion equations. Then, we employee two preconditioned iterative methods, namely, the preconditioned gen...

In recent years, Krylov subspace methods have become widely-used tools for order reduction of large-scale linear dynamical systems; see [1] for a recent survey of such reduction techniques. Despite all the progress in this area, the development of algorithms that are applicable to truly large-scale systems and at the same time preserve the key structures of the large-scale system remains a chal...
